Contadino, (Italian = Farmer) a new restaurant featuring rustic Italian cuisine is now open in downtown Wilmette. The restaurant focus is taking the simple preparations of traditional Italian dishes and providing a "reinvented" or updated perspective.
The menu has been developed by Chef William Johnson, who draws on his experience as Chef de Cuisine at Barbara Lynch's James Beard Award winning Boston restaurant Sportello. There he developed a following for his market-driven Italian dishes which were rooted in Italian culinary tradition. Chef "Will" is striving to emulate that same Italian village approach of using fresh, local ingredients prepared with simple, yet innovative techniques that show bold flavors at Contadino.
In addition to the locally inspired and fresh menu items, Contadino features an impressive, yet moderate Wine List focused mostly on the different wine growing regions of Italy. Operating Partner Todd Gunderson searches for wines that provide a great value and are moderately priced. To complement the eclectic wine selection, a fantastic variety of small batch spirits inspires a unique and every changing cocktail list that is both "rustic" and "reinvented."
Set in a warm and inviting room in the center of downtown Wilmette, Contadino will offer guests a variety of dining options. From having a simple appetizer of grilled calamari at the bar to enjoying some of the fantastic house made pasta dishes that Chef Will creates to being tempted by one of his "reinvented" rustic Italian specials, everyone will find something they will enjoy.
